Welcome to our special page dedicated to knitting in The Glasgow Academy colours!

This space grew out of the success of the Ringing in the Bells project, when several of us from the Sherbrooke Yarn Stormers — with personal links to the Academy — discovered how much we enjoyed knitting the bells and wanted to keep that connection going.
I lead this group which operates very much like a battalion of yarn‑wielding troops.

Last year we knitted over 100 soldiers to commemorate those lost during conflict — twenty of which are now proudly “assigned” to the CCF!

That’s how I earned my nickname Major Mags, and I liked it!   It’s also why our website (and all our communications) follow our wonderfully daft regimental theme.
How this page works
All the patterns on the website can be easily adapted to the Academy colours — so feel free to experiment.

There was great demand for the little duck I took into the office!

WhatsApp group
To make it easy to share ideas about what to knit, photos, ask pattern questions, and stay connected, I’m happy to set up a WhatsApp group for anyone who’d like to join.
Just email me your mobile number, and I’ll add you.
Last May one of our knitted soldiers was invited by the pupils to join them on their trip to Belgium and France, visiting WWI battlefields and monuments across the Somme and Ypres.
I’m pleased to report that our soldier had a wonderful adventure!
I’m still not quite sure how he managed to break his arm!
This page isn’t officially run by the school — it’s simply a warm, friendly corner for anyone connected to the Academy who wants to keep knitting and keep the fun going.

With wool and willpower!

Margaret Cargey aka Major Mags
